Long
before folktales were collected in books,
stories were told and shared in homes and
communities around the world. Stories became
an important part of education and entertainment.
There are similar traditions found in folktales
from around the world. The languages may be
different but many of the conventions remain
the same.
To encourage the children think about stories
and traditional tales and to look for links
between stories from different countries and
cultures.
To encourage the children to enjoy researching
stories and folk tales in order to develop
an understanding of different countries/cultures
and their traditions.
